Spytector - features request
« on: November 04, 2005, 06:55:02 AM »
The purpose of this thread is to help both Spytector team and Spytector users. Spytector development will continue and an important role in that have its users. Below  are listed few of the multitude of feature requests we\'ve received:

- screenshooting
- recording both sides of chat (aim, yahoo etc.)
- server install notification
- rootkit
- more GUI languages
- log sending  to Hotmail
- XP admin password finder

Feel free to add your requests to this thread. Of course, there is no guarantee that the features you want will be implemented, but the users feedback is pretty important to us, that\'s a good way to help Spytector to become better.

Thank you,
Spytector admin

Spytector, I believe a rootkit will hide a program from virus scanners, correct? If spytector doesnt show up in a scan anyway, then a rootkit isn\'t needed? Or is there more a rootkit does?

The server and the logs take the time of the system files, so they are pretty hard to find. The registry startup entry cannot be found easily. Also, the server is undetectable by AVs. So, you\'re right, a rootkit isn\'t a must, but it\'s a nice thing.

Yes, that small screenshot of mouse click could be useful in some cases.

Both sides of a chat is definitely a good addition.  Also, does spytector have an option to upload logs by FTP as well?

I\'m confused about the whole rootkit thing.  What is that and how would it prevent the keylogger from being seen by an AV?

a rootkit hide the server from task manager, netstat,  registry, etc..
so it will add more security to ur server from being discovered

Another feature I would like to see is a formatted log (no backspace etc). Maybe it could be an option.

what i like to see in future version of Spytector is:

1. a built-in smtp server that capable of using localhost as the smtp server for both local and remote deployment module. meaning users no longer have to enter an smtp server! in that way logs can be receive by any email addresses.

2. auto-repair or self-remedy capabilities built-in to remote deployment module. if by any mean the program being disable or kill by anti-spyware or anti-virus program we can have the Spytector to self-diagnose or maybe call home periodically to check its status or if there is any update available it\'ll self-update stealthly over the old version.

TIA

Thanks for the suggestions.

1. A built-in SMTP will increase the server size. The current emailing works OK with Yahoo, HotPop, Gawab etc. etc. Is it worth to increase the server size only for Hotmail?

2. Something like a self-update could be added.

1) yes I like the small size about 32kb.
2) the trouble with a self update is some security applications will alert when your comp ic connecting to another dns server.(microsoft anti-spyware beta for example)

Another idea would be a  built in file binder like that great t*r*o*j*a*n  Beast.
